Dog of the Week- Carly

Apologies from the writer of this blog in the lack of "Dog of the Week"... but it's back and this week I bring to you our very own sweet & shy Carly.

Carly is 2 years old, and has lived a hard life in her few short years. She was a fearful stray running at a truck stop before she was caught...only than to be chained up outside. As you might imagine, she is very shy and spooks very easily. But you can't blame the poor girl, can you?

She is great with both cats and dogs, but we think a quiet home would be best for her. She is looking for a new family that is patient and understands that a new life will bring with it an adjustment period before she shows you her true colors.
Carly is a shy diamond in the rough! Once you gain her trust, you will have a loyal friend for life.

In Memory of Max

We are deeply saddened to let you all know that we said goodbye to Max, the senior OEM, this weekend.

Max was a very loyal boy who loved me very much, but he absolutely adored my husband, Brian. They went everywhere together and Max rarely let Brian out of his sight. If he did lose sight of him, he would wander around our small 1400 sq foot house whining until they were reunited.
Max had a ton of personality and made us laugh all the time. At 9 yrs old, he still loved a good squeaky toy! His loyalty to Brian and his insistence on laying where ever Brian was caused us humans (me) to trip over him all the time as he laid sprawled out with his eagle eye on Brian. He also loved our couch...one evening as he lumbered onto it, it came crashing to the ground as he broke the support beams!

Saying goodbye is never easy, but Brian told me that he and Max had a nice talk about how he was going to a safe place where he wouldn't be in pain, he wouldn't be anxious and he could be with us all the time.

Max passed away quickly and peacefully in Brian's lap, being told how much we adored him.

I hope everyone out there will consider opening their hearts & homes to a senior dog.

Remember him?

Remember Happy? The Presa who stayed in rescue FOREVER????!??

Here is a wonderful update from his new mom and dad!

Just wanted to update you about Squishy (formerly Happy). First off we changed his name to Squishy, he seems to like it . He has adjusted extremely well thus far. He's just an awesome dog!!! He loves everyone he meets, people and dogs, and has been an incredible addition to our family. He's treated like a celebrity everywhere we go as most people around here have never seen or heard of a Presa and are very impressed by him. He is a GREAT ambassador for the breed! We take him to PetSmart with us and he loves the attention he gets from kids there. He really loves all his squeaky toys and Kong stuffed with sweet potatoe and yogurt. The local dog park has been great for him, he gets along well with dogs of all sizes (he really loves puppies) and has a wonderful time there. Training has been going very well, we've mastered the basics and are starting more advanced training next week. Our trainer trains Police K9's and really likes Squishy. He is constantly exploring all the new sights, sounds, and smells of his new home. Every walk around the neighborhood is a new adventure for him, he's loving it! He's quite the helper in the kitchen, having to check out and smell everything. The kitchen seems to be his favorite place in the house. Overall we couldn't be happier with Squishy, he has been so much more than we ever expected!
I have attached a few random pictures, feel free to use them as you wish.

Thanks again for making this adoption work for us, and for the volunteers that transported Squish for us!!!

Don't hate me cause I'm beautiful!

Meet Sapphire- a gorgeous 6 mo old Neopolitan Mastiff. Isn't she stunning?

This girl is looking for a home that has giant breed experienced and one that has the time to give her the proper training that she needs. If you give a Neo an inch, they will happily take a mile..and Sapphire is no exception. She is very smart and a very very very sweet girl!

Maybe she's the one you've been looking for?

In honor of the 4th

In honor of the 4th, I thought I would pass along this great t-shirt that supports the troops!

Here is the background behind the t-shirt:

Dog is Good is a proud sponsor of Army Veteran Troy Yocum and his "wonder dog" Emmie, who are hiking 7000 miles across the country to raise funds and awareness for soldiers, veterans and their families. This "Never Walk Alone" tee not only depicts these two travelers on their journey but also symbolizes the reality that our troops and their loved ones never have to walk alone. To help meet that goal, DIG will donate 100% of all retail profit from sales of this shirt to Troy's causes, which includes Soldier's Angels.

A dane and her goat....looking for a home

Please note this Great Dane is not in our program, so this is a cross post for :

Monday the East Lake Animal Hospital and Orphanage picked them up and it was so sad...I have never seen anything like this! The dog got up in the van easily, but it was too far of a jump for the goat...she cried and cried because she was not with the dog untill they lifted her up in the van! I was told by the hospital that they did the same thing when they were getting them out of the van and when they were seperated for just a few minutes getting them into the fence at thier temporary home. Since they have seen this...they will find them a home together.

The goat is a young fainting goat, which explains why it is so sweet and attached to the dog. He was fine and only treated for worms, however the Great Dane was not well taken care of by it's owners. Come to find out, she is 78 and not only had a lot of fleas, which was the only thing I could see, but she has ticks, an eye infection believed to be caused by the fleas, ear mites, worms, heart worms, broken teeth and healed wounds that were not treated on her knees that have abscessed and at least one tumor. She will be treated over the next several weeks, as her health permits more treatment and spayed.

After she is well they will be looking for a permanant home for them. Trust me, I had them for 4 days and they are the most sweet and lovable animals I have ever seen...you fall for them right away. If you have any contacts who are interested in applying for adoption for the two together, please send them to the Orphanage website http://www.welovepets.net/elpo/index.html .

In case you haven't seen the pictures of them sleeping together and the dog following commands, I have attached more pictures for you.

Thank you to everyone for your help and all of the wonderful responses. I have not been in this situation before or involved with rescued pets and you have all shown me that the human race can still be reliable and do the right thing...which is something I no longer believed existed
