Saying Goodbye

We had to say goodbye to 2 of our own this week…

Alibi aka Kuma the Tosa Inu has undergone all sorts of tests and further diagnostics to figure out the cause for his swollen lymph nodes and other symptoms. In the mean time, his quality of life has been gradually declining despite the best efforts of his amazing foster mom, Carroll Miller, and our vets who have done their best to keep him as comfortable as possible. He was finally diagnosed with advanced and progressive Lyphoma and due to the fact that he was terminal and suffering, we had to make the difficult decision to let him go. Carroll was with him as he crossed over the rainbow bridge and we are all grateful that he is no longer suffering and can now run and play pain free!

Kai the Great Pyrenees puppy came to us mostly deaf and blind and to make matters worse, he was very sick with what we thought was an upper respiratory infection. He was put on antibiotics but when he was not respond...ing and stopped eating and wanting to get up, his incredible foster mom, Heather Shelstad, rushed him to the emergency room. He was put on IV and Oxygen supportive care to treat advanced pneumonia for the past couple of days while we awaited his test results to try and determine the cause. This morning we were informed that Kai tested positive for Distemper which there is sadly no treatment for and the vet recommended euthanasia so we didn’t prolong his suffering. He passed peacefully and is now playing with Kuma and all the other giants who have gone before him! One of his sisters is showing signs of steady decline as well, but the other two appear to be unaffected and are eating well and thriving so we are remaining optimistic and hoping for the best! Please keep them all in your prayers!
